Spreading the care at Blk 605 Elias Road

The Lunchbox Giveaway Initiative started by Dedicated Locals' Caring Community and Willing Hearts, kickstarted last week at Block 605 Elias Road with 35 lunchboxes given away to grateful residents in the estate.

Dedicated Locals' Caring Community is pleased to see that by today, the numbers of recipients have doubled, as more elderly citizens and lower-income families come forward to enjoy the joy of dining with neighbours together.

Due to the overwhelming number of residents today, it was touching to see the recipients giving up their lunchboxes to each other for fear that there weren't enough to go around. But fret not, we are well-prepared so there was lunch for everyone present.

Besides tight bonds forged between the residents and Dedicated Locals' Caring Community, the Chairman Desmond has also established strong rapport with People's Association Constituency Director, Johnny, who came over to say hi and understand our program on a deeper level. Johnny was pleased to see another organisation doing so much to care for the senior folks in society, playing their part with sincerity.

If you would like to join us in this meaningful and caring program, or if you would like to sponsor supplies for the less fortunate families, please get in touch with us right away, at desmond@dlscc.com thanks!

Commencement of LunchBoxes Giveaway at Blk 614 Elias Road

After the successful launch of our Lunchbox Giveaway Program at Tampines and Yishun areas, as well as a recent monthsary for the project, Dedicated Locals' (DLs') Caring Community is psyched to bring more free lunches to the residents of Blk 614 Elias Road today.

A very meaningful collaborated project by DLs' Caring Community and Willing Hearts, this LunchBox Giveaway program has been ongoing for slightly over a month, and so far the response has been good.

As such, this initiative has steadily increasing its identified locations for lunchbox distribution, to the needy families and elderly citizens.   This is to help them out by providing them at least one meal at day, and allowing them to foster closer bond with their estate neighbours so that they need not dine in solitude.

"Whoa, this makes our meal very enjoyable leh, sitting together with people I know and talking together to
eat!" A Mr. Tan commented with a jolly smile, as he
took his place beside some neighbours and dug into their lunches together. "The first and many more to come!"

Chairman Desmond Lim as well as DLs' Caring Community's Auditor, Thomas Tan were there to personally facilitate the smooth operations of this newly-launch program at Blk 614 Elias Road. With
them was a small entourage of volunteers who would take over the day-to-day operations of lunchbox distribution here in future.

The resident volunteers at this estate are Mdm. Lau and Mrs Lim, both of whom have helped greatly in coordinating of this program in their estate; especially Mdm. Lau, without whom this project here in Blk 614 Elias Road would not have been borne.

DLs' Caring Community gave out a total of 35 boxes of lunchboxes to the elderly and needy citizens today,  and the number is expected to increase very soon, as more residents here hear about this initiative.

DLs' Caring Community hopes to be able to reach out to more elderly citizens and needy families, so as to bring these steaming boxes of lunches to them, to fill their stomachs and help them foster closer relations with each other.

If you would like to contribute as a sponsor of supplies, or in the capacity of a volunteer, please write in to desmond@dlscc.com or heartforthepeople2001@gmail.com today!

Happy Monthsary to LunchBox Giveaway Program at Blk 499C Tampines Drive 9

Today seems an ordinary Sunday for most people, probably - another day of rest, another day of church, another day of enrichment activities, maybe the International Arctic Sea Ice Day. For the elderly residents of Blk 499 Tampines Drive 9, it is another day that they would be receiving the free lunchboxes; for Dedicated Locals' (DLs') Caring Community and Willing Hearts, it is another day of their lunchboxes distribution collaboration.

However, today is a very special day because it marks exactly a month since the Lunchbox Giveaway Program started in June, at this very location.

After an arduous journey of securing a good collaboration partner, arranging the logistics and manpower, sourcing for good locations to conduct this lunchboxes giveaway, liaising with Resident Volunteers to facilitate the process, and looking out for more volunteers to help out - the project took form finally!

We started with about 50 packs of lunchboxes for the needy and elderly residents in this estate, and about 3-4 volunteers.  Today, we are giving out 70 boxes of lunches here, with almost double the number of volunteers that we used to have; and the numbers of  both are still increasing steadily.

Not only is the project going on smoothly and successfully at Tampines Blk 499 here itself, DLs' Caring Community has also expanded the project over to 2 more estates at Yishun Blk 162 and Blk 701B respectively, sponsoring boxes of warm lunch to needy and elderly residents there well.

This marks a proud start for DLs' Caring Community and its members - Happy Monthsary for the Tampines LunchBox Giveaway Project - and may this program continue to grow, and blossom.

If you would like to be a part of this meaningful project - either in the capacity of a sponsor of supplies, or to volunteer your time,  get in touch today at desmond@dlscc.com or our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/dlscaringcommunity?fref=ts

Thank you everyone for your support thus far!

Caring Through Breaking Fast Together

During the first Wednesday of every month, Dedicated Locals' (DLs') Caring Community holds their monthly meeting to brainstorm, strategize and update each other on the various charitable and social projects the members are running concurrently.

It is gratifying  to note that every meeting, the number of members and / or volunteers increase. Just like this evening - besides the Chairman Desmond Lim, Secretary Aloysius Chan and Treasurer William Lim, there were some new faces spotted, who were keen to help out in the community services and better the lives of the needy and / or elderly citizens.

This evening's meeting was especially heart-warming and special because besides showing care and concern for the community at large, the DLs' Caring Community Team decided to undergo fasting and breaking fast during this Ramadan period with their Muslim members, so that everyone understands the determination and pains required to overcome this crucial period.

At 7.00pm sharp, the DLs' members and attendees offered thanks for their meals,  and prepared to dig into the sumptuous food such as Bryani, Roti Prata, Curry etc prepared for them for this experience.   After a day of food-less-ness, all the attendees of tonight's meeting enjoyed a hearty feast together while they bonded over the meeting, brainstorming new ideas of what they could do to render assistance to the needy and elderly citizens, as well as sharing of concerns faced during their philanthrophic acts of the previous month.

The agenda of this unique "Breaking Fast Together" session not only helps the members to understand the toughness of involuntarily famine as well as learning to appreciate what they have more, but also created a respect they have for their Muslim counterparts, who have to undergo fasting for an entire month. With this new experience gained today, the members are more determined to help others out, to ensure that they do not suffer from hunger and the lack of other basic necessities. Most importantly, they practiced the values of understanding each other as a team before they could understand, and reach out to the general public at large.

Kudos to the team, for bringing care to another level altogether.

To become a part of this down-to-earth and caring community, whether as a sponsor or volunteer, please feel free to contact desmond@dlscc.com or heartforthepeople2001@gmail.com today, and play a part in contributing to the country that you are proud to serve!

Launching of LunchBox Giveaway Program at 2 Estates in Yishun Today!

Following the successful launches of the Lunchbox Giveaway program at Tampines Blk 499C – a joint venture between charity organisations DLs’ Caring Community and Willing Hearts - another 114 residents in two Yishun estates  benefited from this program today.

The Lunchbox Giveaway initiative commenced today at Blk 162 Yishun Street 11, supplying boxes of aromatic hot food to 65 senior citizens and needy residents. Chairman of DLs’ Caring Community, Desmond Lim, was onsite to personally ensure that the launch was successful.

Despite the rather big group of residents gathered below the block – designated collection point for lunchboxes – they were very orderly and polite towards each other. Not only did they pass lunchboxes around to each other, and demonstrated the spirit of caring for each other, they also constantly checked if the volunteers have taken their meals already. This resulted in hearty interaction between residents and volunteers, fulfilling the goal of this Lunchbox Giveaway program – to encourage communication between residents so that they need not dine in silent solitude

Over at Blk 701B Yishun Avenue 5, another 49 boxes of piping hot lunches were distributed to recipients made up of elderly citizens and needy citizens.

The residents were initially very surprised at the arrival of their meals as promised, and were overwhelmed by the kindness of the volunteers. “I thought they just say-say only, but then the lunchboxes really came, and we were told that we would be getting them everyday!” A Mrs. Tan commented, offering words of appreciation for the volunteering organisations’ commitment and dedication to their cause of taking care of the needy / elderly citizens.

Other citizens showed gratitude by volunteering to be resident volunteers, to help facilitate the program by gathering the residents together, collecting the lunchboxes from the delivery crew at the void decks (designated gathering grounds) as well as disseminating the boxes of steaming hot food. “I feel like a leader when I help out, like I am doing something meaningful instead of sitting around at home, thank you so much!” one of the potential resident volunteers confided in Desmond.

Dedicated Locals’ (DLs’) Caring Community is very glad that the response for this launch has been great so far, and that the cooked food warmed both the hearts and tummies. We invite you to join us in giving some care to the needy and elderly citizens through sponsorship of supplies or manpower today – please write to desmond@dlscc.com or heartforthepeople2001@gmail.com now!
