It all begins - How DL's Caring Community was established

DLs' Caring Community (Dedicated Locals), was formed by Mr Desmond Lim and supported by a group of dedicated locals, who wanted to provide communal services to the unfortunates and assist to improvise citizens's welfare and essential needs to improve the living standards of the neglected.

It was established since 2011, as initiative group under the umbrella of
Singapore Democratic Alliance-Singapore Justice Party (SDA-SJP)and it was named as "Sinpo" which was later renamed as DLs' Caring Community in 2nd May 2013, and continue to function as a charity arm of the party.

Since our establishment in 2011 we have actively participated in:
(i) Helping students from impoverished families complete their studies smoothly through financial funding;
(ii) Collecting used laptops to have them repaired and donated to Bhutan kids;
(iii) Donating dry ration, food ration and rice etc to various charity organisations and individuals over the years;
(iv) Raising funds to rebuild homes in Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Relief;
(v) Sponsoring 100 gas cylinders to the flood victims in Kelantan and rebuild the school library;
(vi) Arranging for legal aid for destitute families in need; and
(vii) Collaborating with various organisations to actively identify and distribute lunches as well as organizing outings for the elderly citizens.
The list is not exhaustive; these are valuable takeaways from having spent time meaningfully, we are satisfied of what we have achieved and what we have done for others so far, and will continue to help others.
What people need are a pair of listening ears and those who will find means to better their lives - no matter how small the changes may be. Big changes always start from small steps.
With that, we leave you with a meaningful quote by an established English writer, Douglas Noel Adams, who said this, "To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity."
DLs' Caring Community was incorporated in 31st March 2015 with Registrar of Society, Singapore as an independent charity entity, and the management and committee members has strongly pledged affiliated to SDA-SJP.

  1. I heard to join as a volunteer must pay $8 to purchase a tee shirt to wear during volunteering work. Why ????

  2. My mother in law actually volunteered quite often with them. She was told that $5 now and not $8 was actually paid by the organiser. As many submitted their names but later never turn up at the events and organisers had ordered the tee shirt of their sizes. Now they collect $5 for those who sign up and donate the money to charity whether or not the person who signed up will turn up or not.

  5. Volunteers are joining an organisation not just one time off event. Thus, we require volunteers to purchase own t-shirt. In most event organiser gave out t-shirt and most of the time it only wear for one time. The sale of t-shirt is to prevent wastage and unnecessary cost incurred by the organisation. Also to promote sense of belonging.

    As for those who participated in our activities, like any organisation there is a fees collection and to prevent people abuse the benefits. We forfeit those who registered but never turn up. Such behaviour preventing other wanted to participate but because of overwhelming don’t have a chance to participate. For those who had turned up, we refund them the fee but some chosen to donate it back to help to offset cost incurred for the activities organised by us. The balance to use be for other on coming charity’s activities which they benefitted from the activities.
